The Tabernacle: The House Love Builds Exodus 25

The Tabernacle: The House Love Builds Exodus 25

Moses was chosen by God to lead Israel out of Egyptian slavery.

He wasn’t perfect – made mistakes. He had to learn too.

This church GT belongs to the Lord. He has chosen me to lead. I realize I have made mistakes – but I am learning and progressing.

As long as I am in charge – I will follow what God tells me to do.

Several weeks ago I made a covenant with the Lord. I now wear a ring on my middle finger next to my ring finger as a reminder of the covenant. (Ring has 3 crosses – one large in middle is God then smaller one on right is me, one on left is Pam.

I will do what He tells me, not what other people want, not what my wife wants, elders want, not what I want. His will above all others including my own. It all depends upon what He tells me.

A few weeks ago when Pam and I went away for 4 days God dealt with our hearts about being all in – leading His church His way.

Bottom line: I love my Lord. I love the people He assigned to us. He placed us here and we will follow His lead and will. WE are here to serve God’s people through the Lord.

For 430 years Israel were slaves in Egypt (Ex. 12:40-1). Supernaturally led out of Egypt into a desert over 600K men.

Soon, God has a task for His people. Build a tabernacle in the wilderness. The word “tabernacle” in Hebrew is mishkan – dwelling place. It was to be a portable place people would learn worship and how to dwell with God. “Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.” Ex. 25:8

37 entire chapters in the Bible about the Tabernacle.

It was the worship center for Israel for almost 500 years from Moses to David. Its purpose was to teach people to look at the promised Messiah Who would fulfill every symbol of the tabernacle by Himself.

God required so much of them- they had so little, this is what glorifies God! God gave Moses the vision with specific, detailed instructions.

Why does God use people to get things done? For the people to get to know God better.

Moses said to the congregation, “Take from among you an offering to the Lord. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring an offering to the Lord; gold, silver, bronze, and blue, purple, and scarlet fine linen, goat’s hair, ram’s skin dyed red, porpoise skins, and acacia wood, oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense, and stones for the ephod and the breastplate.”  Ex. 35:5-9

Everyone whose heart stirred him and everyone whose spirit was willing came and brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tent of the meeting. They came both men and women, as many as had willing hearts and brought brooches, earrings, rings and all kinds of bracelets and gold jewelry.” Ex. 35:20-22

Where did people who had been slaves 430 years get this jewelry?

Do you believe in the Providence of God ?– that is He sees ahead and makes provision for you to do what He is calling you to do?

Ill. You remember the 10 plagues of Egypt to force Pharaoh to release Israel to worship God. Just before the final plague God told Moses to tell Israel to ask their masters for articles of silver and gold. Then the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians.” Ex. 11:3

Note: first the people had to trust God and take the risk to ask their masters for silver and gold and THEN the Lord gave them FAVOR.

Favor is evidence God has been working on hearts ahead of you.

The truth is God has already provided things to come to you for the purpose of financing the kingdom work through you.  You have money  for a purpose. You have favor on your life not for yourself but for the Kingdom Of God purposes.

Our church has been financially struggling for several years. Can’t improve things we need to improve – can’t give raises. To give us a springboard to do some things, we agreed for Live Oak to use our building on Saturdays. The agreement we have with them is for 3 years but if at anytime we or they decide this is not working for us – given reasonable time we can stop it. We have no agreement to sell anything at any time or merge at any time. Whatever the future is for GT – all depends on what God tells me. I serve at His pleasure.

3 things I want you to see the way God works and does great things:

Motives – measures – movement = momentum

Motives: verses 21, 22, 26, 29

“Everyone whose heart stirred him and whose spirit was willing”

“They came both men and women, as many as had willing hearts

“All the women whose hearts stirred them to action. . .”

“Every man and woman whose heart was willing brought the materials which the Lord had commanded through Moses.”

Motives matter to the Lord! Why did ex-slaves give like this! Because they were grateful for what God had done in their lives.

The way God wants you to give:

Willingly with no strings attached– quote 2 Cor. 9:7 Every man as he has purposed in his heart so let him give, not grudgingly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful (hilarious) giver. God is able to make all grace abound to you so that you always having enough of everything may abound to every good work.
2 Cor. 9:6-7

Ill. Pastor asking people for money on run down church building. Chairman of deacons “I’ll give 25 dollars.” Just then a piece of plaster fell and hit him on the head. HE took it as a sign from God and then said, “Pastor, I’ll make it 50 dollars instead.” W/o hesitation the pastor said, “Hit him again Lord!”

God does not use fear tactics to get you to give.

Ill. One horse jockey had an incredible winning streak. Every horse he rode he won the race. A reporter asked him, “What makes the difference?” The jockey replied, “Just before the horse is let out of the starting gate, I whisper a little poem in his ear. “Rose are red, violets are blue, horses that lose are made into glue!”

Your motive for giving anything to God matters = love.

Motives are important, but measures do matter!

Everyone gave what they had to give – some jewelry, some twisted linens, some gold, silver or bronze. The point is God gave them all something that they could in return give.

Ill. When our children were small, we would give them money to put in the offering plate.

Ill. Show closed hand. God is trying to teach you- when you open your hand and give then your hand is open to receive back.

This requires a certain kind of faith/trust from people:

-         Gave God their best – ill. Not their throw away stuff.

-         Gave God their first – Ex. 34:19  firstborn of flock belongs to God.

God specifically told Israel to tithe the first portion because it was His, it was holy. Tithe is a measurement of the first 10 %. Tithe of the sheep, herd, the harvest was to be given to God for the service of the tabernacle.

Why does God want us to give 10% of our increase? He could do anything without us! So that we come to know Him through process.

He is teaching all of us we are temporary stewards not owners.

The first ten % was established by God as a law – in OT it had a curse attached to it if you did not do it.

Do we tithe today? Yes because it is one of those things that passed through the cross. It is no longer a law with a curse still attached if you don’t because Jesus took all the curse. But it is a principle of the kingdom.

(Principle is a fundamental truth that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.) In the New Covenant we have moved from the letter of the law to the spirit motive of the Law’s intent.

Ill. Look how Jesus taught the Spirit of the Law behind ten commandments. “You have heard it said, but I say unto you – The spirit motivation behind the Law is greater than following the letter of the Law. You could follow the letter of the Law without your heart after God = the Pharisees.

Mathew 23 Jesus rips the Pharisees for hypocrisy of appearing to be living by the letter of the Law on the outside and but neglecting the change of heart.

Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You tithe down to the spices in your house, yet you ignore the change of the heart. These you should have done without leaving the other undone.  Matthew 23:23 paraphrase

You can give without loving, (Pharisees)

but you can’t love without giving!

Today we don’t tithe because we fear a curse if we don’t. We tithe  because of love and gratitude for the cross, because God has showed us His principle of finances in the kog today.

God has to deal with your heart so that you get free and Spirit led about tithing for today.

The motive for giving must be love not fear.

The measure must be according to God’s Word.

When the motive is right. When the measure is right then this caused . . .

Movement – momentum – Miracles came after their giving.

“all the men and women whose hearts moved them to bring everything that was needed for all the work which the Lord had commanded through Moses to be made.” Ex. 35:29

God’s movement upon your heart THEN

Your movement towards God’s heart.

Concl: I believe every Sunday here that God moves upon people’s heart, but some still don’t move towards God.

-         Resisting the Holy Spirit

Ill. People often say after church “that was a great move of God today”. There is always a great move of God upon people’s heart. The problem is people do not move when God moves in their heart.

You can only say yes or no to God. Wait means no to God.

You must learn to obey the prompting of the HS upon your heart.

The Tabernacle: The house the love builds.

He is doing it again right here in Wildwood. You are here for such a time as this – to be a part of a move of God.
